Hello everyone, this is my first thread 2nd post although I've been on here about a year searching and learning what I needed about our 2005 Envoy XUV SLE 4.2i 4x4. It was a good truck for about 2 months after we picked up from a small local dealership, and we we're straight up ripped off. Now 11 months later, and about $6500 in total costs lost, we've got a blown transmission. For the most part I've always done all my own work on our vehicles after familiarizing myself with each one's specific configuration and probable issues, and the experiences and knowledge I've gleaned from you guys have saved some headaces, and even more money, so thank you all, model specific forums are a do-it-yourselfer's best friend, lol.
But now I'm a bit stuck, the transmission is shot, no reverse, no park, and seriously nasty grinding when shifting, so I'm at the point where I'm trying to find a used tranny to drop in, and the cheapest one quoted from a local yard is $675, and I really can't afford that, plus everything I'm going to need for the swap. I know the 4L60e is a widely used transmission but I'm not sure what other vehicles I could pull one from and work without issue in mine. I know there are some numbers located on the tops of the ones I've looked at, but with mine it's impossible to see that area of the transmission while still in the truck. I found a few sets of numbers etched into the case, at the bottom of the bellhousing, and another at bottom of the tail does anyone know if those would help with finding a compatible replacement.
Numbers on bottom of bellhousing:
T56169925
Numbers at bottom of tail:
2KCDO5OJ 32961542
If they're no help, can anyone here pease tell me without me having to pull the transmission first, what other specific transmission's will work as a replacement?
I live in an apartment complex so, just pulling the trans isn't an option, I can do the replacement but it has to all be done within a weekend, and money's tight which is why I'm doing what I can to find the cheapest possible resolution, I know a rebuild is out of the question. I thank anyone in advance for any help or advice you can give me. Rob
