Hello everyone, this is my first thread 2nd post although I've been on here about a year searching and learning what I needed about our 2005 Envoy XUV SLE 4.2i 4x4. It was a good truck for about 2 months after we picked up from a small local dealership, and we we're straight up ripped off. Now 11 months later, and about $6500 in total costs lost, we've got a blown transmission. For the most part I've always done all my own work on our vehicles after familiarizing myself with each one's specific configuration and probable issues, and the experiences and knowledge I've gleaned from you guys have saved some headaces, and even more money, so thank you all, model specific forums are a do-it-yourselfer's best friend, lol.
But now I'm a bit stuck, the transmission is shot, no reverse, no park, and seriously nasty grinding when shifting, so I'm at the point where I'm trying to find a used tranny to drop in, and the cheapest one quoted from a local yard is $675, and I really can't afford that, plus everything I'm going to need for the swap. I know the 4L60e is a widely used transmission but I'm not sure what other vehicles I could pull one from and work without issue in mine. I know there are some numbers located on the tops of the ones I've looked at, but with mine it's impossible to see that area of the transmission while still in the truck. I found a few sets of numbers etched into the case, at the bottom of the bellhousing, and another at bottom of the tail does anyone know if those would help with finding a compatible replacement.
Numbers on bottom of bellhousing:
T56169925
Numbers at bottom of tail:
2KCDO5OJ 32961542
If they're no help, can anyone here pease tell me without me having to pull the transmission first, what other specific transmission's will work as a replacement?
I live in an apartment complex so, just pulling the trans isn't an option, I can do the replacement but it has to all be done within a weekend, and money's tight which is why I'm doing what I can to find the cheapest possible resolution, I know a rebuild is out of the question. I thank anyone in advance for any help or advice you can give me. Rob

2KCDO5OJ 32961542 is the transmission ID number. Decode as follows:

1st Digit = Model Year
2nd & 3rd Digit = Model Code
4th Digit = Transmission Family
5th - 7th Digit = Assembly Number
8th Digit = Julian Month of Assembly

9th - 16th Digit = Sequential Serial Number

So I wonder if the 2/3/4 digit is actually KZD, which would be a 4L65E

Alternatively, you could look at the RPO label inside the glove box. You're looking for RPO numbers that start with "M"

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately the previous owner removed the sticker from the glove box, but using a bin decoder the truck came back with an "M30" transmission order code which says the 4l60e electronic transmission, any thoughts, as to which other vehicles and years I could get a comparable one out of without having to do any modification or swapping parts that may be damaged on mine? I don't have enough posts here to upload the pic or link, but it appears to have allowed me to attach it, but it is definitely "KCD". Anyone have any suggestions that would could help me find another alternative? I appreciate anything you can contribute.

There's a local pull yard in town that allows you to look up interchange information on their website. For an 05 Envoy XUV 4.2L 4WD it says the following models and year ranges are interchangable:

05-07 GMC Envoy
05-06 GMC Envoy XL
05 GMC Envoy XUV
05-07 Buick Rainier
05-07 Chevrolet Trailblazer
05-06 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT
05-07 Isuzu Ascender
05-07 Saab 9-7X

The icing would be to find a transmission with that 2/3/4 sequence of KCD as it should be the same model and family assembly.

Thank you very much, you rock, that's exactly the information that I needed to know. Now to see if I'll be able to find an affordable, working replacement that I won't have to put in all the extra work in to pull it out and find that it isn't the right setup, as well as pulling mine, flushing the system, and likely replacing the cooler as well, then install the damn thing, especially considering that I'll be doing it all without any help. It sucks being out of work, not having a second car, and having no mechanically inclined friends that would be any help, lol.
Well, I have to say thank you very much again, you gave me exactly the data I need to widen my search to increase my chances of success. Unfortunately, if I can't find anything acceptable, reasonably close, and within my budget very soon, I'll probably end up having to try selling this damn thing as it is, but we'd end up having to take some really serious losses considering how much we've paid for it, and into it within the last year. Crossing my fingers and saying a prayer now.:thx:thx
