I think you are misunderstanding the flares. They attach over the existing sheet metal. They only provide extra coverage over the wheels by effectively widening the body. There's no need to cut out the fenders to fit the flares... unless I am misunderstanding something... and in which case, you'd have a hard time selling these in any large quantity.
I may be... My jeep buddies have always used fender flares to cover "Cutting" to the original fender walls and bolting on flares to 1. cover the amount of trimming that was necessary to have the wheel flex under the fender during articulation, (clearance) and 2. for legality reasons where a wheel/tire cannot protrude from the vehicle over a certain amount. I may have read into this thread wrong but that's is want I thought was the reason to have fab'd flares. AVS makes some for visual reasons and I believe they may come out enough to cover any legality purposes. Am I way off???

The flares from bushwhacker are cosmetic only (maybe for legal too) as I understand it. I thought that's what this thread was originally started for.

I have no desire for fender flares, so I have been kinda skimming along too. Maybe we all have been talking about different things!

Not at all... Just two different types of fender flares being discussed in the same forum thread with no real differentiation between the two.

 I think I get it now. Some are looking for a more aggressive version of the AVS style flare and wanted a Bushwacker flare for aesthetic reasons. And the other half, or should I say AlekG was looking for a functional flare that would allow bigger tires under his TB. (without just cutting and making it look horrendous). I think I get it now. ;)

:thx
I was getting confused. "Go on with the Chlorophyll!"

Just catching up here.
I realize the cost in the production but in my Province the wheels can not stick out past the fender walls. Now as I want to put the bigger tire on i would have to use the wheel adapter that would bring it out to far.. So in this case I would need a flare to make up the difference. I dont want my TB lifted and looking pretty for the mall I love trail rides but I would deffinetly need flares to avoid tickets.

What about this guy:... :drool

He actually lives only 20 minutes away from me. I'm trying to plan an outing with him... schedules are kinda conflicting.

Remember, there are not too many TrailBlazers out there either... and fender flares are not necessarily an off-road item. They're generally more bling than function.
By the way where did this feller pick up the snorkol for the TB anyone know?:undecided

TB Fender Flare Sketch

...been dying for a set... would there be a problem with maybe making a sketch of what u were thinking of for the TB? ya know just a quick idea.. if not.. im still in..
I'd like to see a sketch too but I'm not much with a pencil & paper. The thumbnail sketches I do works for me but would be an embarassment to show others! If somebody here could sketch out some ideas it'd be great! I've looked through the TV gallery and the Off Road Pict thread and I think some cool looking flares could be created.

Also, whether the fender flares are for cut-out fenders or not would ultimately be a demand issue. A flare could be designed to work on a stock wheel well opening I think, or one could be designed for much larger tires with cut-out wheel wells. For that matter, if there was enough interest, both could be done.

no.. i never had running boards... but in photoshop or just paint... i have set printed out with no bumpers for when i was sketching ideas.. no roof rack.. so on and so on.. they do come in vary handy... found them online while doing on my projects for 3d modeling... thats what those drawings are mainly made for :raspberry:raspberry

I found a fiberglass place in Orange County that would have made bolt-on replacement flared fender for $500 a pair. No mold charge for the first set. Hand laid up. Just give them a pair of metal fenders, and tell them how much larger and wider an opening you wanted.

http://www.glassworksunlimited.com/

Long term mod.

For instance - Tacoma on sale for $355 a pair. 4" flare. 3" rise in the opening:

They have gone up a bit since you got quoted that.

"We have not done a Trail Blazer, but could, we would need a set of steel factory fenders to build from, and the cost would be around $1200.00 to $1500.0 for them to be designed and manufactured.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

I ended up getting a note from my local shop/fabrication place that they happened to have these in stock:
CUT-OUT FENDER FLARES
97-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ

and to come over for a fitting. The front was promising and my fabrication guy said he thought maybe he could make it work with some fender cutting. But the rear was out of the question because the flares deviated too much from the opening and there was no way to cut the door panel
Bumping an old post.

How far off where the front Cherokee flares? I'm guessing they where 84-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ Set Part # 10911-07?

And as far as the rear, if they aren't used to cut out, but more as an extension, how would they have fit?

Did anything come of having commitments for having some made specifically for the TB? As far as front goes, cutting would be ok if necessary, but they could be more a bolt on type so long as they matched the look of the front for those of us not going to a size limited by the rear.

Just looking for any new information...
