I used Carbo-sol. Discontinued in January 2006 though. My throttle body made paper towels BLACK.

any carb cleaner is fine..

 

You gotta watch out for that. *Some* carb cleaners will damage downstream
sensors, and can melt plastic parts. Make sure whatever you get says it's safe
for coated throttle bodies and/or sensors. The CRC stuff pictured above is.
Most any brand of "throttle body cleaner" will be.

I've got a couple of screwdrivers that have specially modified handles, custom
fit for my hand, thanks to regular carb cleaner.

Not saying that *all* carb cleaners won't do, but better safe than melted.

Carbo-sol eats plastic.

 

If it sits too long on the throttle body, it might damage the coating
in the throat of the throttle. That won't really *harm* the throttle body,
but it will bare the metal, which will oxidize as well as build up grime
a lot faster.

That's not saying it *will*, but then, a lot of the sensors on these trucks
have plastic bodies/housings.

A friend of mine got some carb cleaner on his throttle position sensor
while cleaning his throttle body housing, and didn't notice. A week later,
he had to replace it and the plug, because it melted and shorted out.
That plus my melted screwdriver handles convinced me to use the stuff
that was supposedly safe.

What about SEAFOAM? Heading to GRANITE RUN MALL (Media, PA) 20 March,

From what was going around in these post SEAFOAM sounds like it will "DO IT ALL". One of the attendees at the meet will be showing us "how to" but, won't be doing it there because of the "SMOKE FACTOR".

i would get ahold of some foaming carb cleaner and a can of conventional carb spray... that and an old toothbrush works wonders... I clean mine on the truck and it barely ever smokes when I do it...
