Rear window defroster connector tab

I know this is an old topic, but my situation is a little more unique.

When I took my TB in to get detailed, they broke the left defroster tab right off the window itself. I noticed this AFTER paying, so I went back and they applied some type of adhesive to it. Well, long story short, it still doesn't work, and I'm pissed. I'm bringing it back on Tuesday for them to supposedly fix it, but honestly I don't trust them with my truck at all. Not only did they break the defroster, they dinged my door and scratched my bumper in multiple places.

I guess my question to you guys is, should I handle this myself, and if so how do I remove the adhesive that they applied and reapply the correct adhesive that NAPA carries? I called around and they have the adhesive for like 7 bucks. But I'm worried that since it's already glued on by the wrong adhesive, it might screw the connection up permanently if I attempt to remove it.

I am not about to pay $750 for a whole new piece of rear window glass. This will work some how. If there's a will there's a way. Thanks guys.

I like this for weakening adhesive, only $6. Here's the blurb from the Autozone website.

The kit at Napa is great. It has a piece of sand paper so you should be able to sand off the other glue. You need to get to the actual conductor. You can find this out by testing for continuity from both sides. If its good then apply the fixer and tab. I also tested after it was finished and it works great. I just taped the tab on the window for 24 hours to be safe.

In my experience in this matter, most glues didn't work. My manager at work has an '07 trailblazer ltz... her connector became seperated as well... since her tb is a lease she took it in for warranty... the dealer tried 3 times to reapply the connector using glues, etc... after the 3rd attempt, they jus relaced the window... good luck my friend.. hope that place that messed up your tb will step up for you...

Yeah, the dealer wants $105 just to look at the connector. No thanks, I'll do it myself haha. I'm bringing my truck back on Tuesday to the detail shop...should I even let them touch it though? I feel like I should be the one to remove the old glue, sandpaper the area, and reapply the correct adhesive. But then again, if I screw up I can't blame it on them and I'll have to pay for all the expenses involved. I'm all for DIY, but I'm not that knowledgeable about these things.

How can I avoid screwing up the conductor? Also, wouldn't sandpaper affect the connection points or something? I am very nervous about messing with that area. If I make the detailing company do this, I definitely need to watch them and make sure they aren't messing it up permanently.

A guy from the detailing shop fixed it today, with the permatex grid repair kit you're talking about. I watched him the whole time and made sure he knew what he was doing. He said he's fixed a lot of these before so I'm not too worried...but I have to wait 24 hours until I can test the defroster. Hopefully this works, otherwise I'm going back there and raising hell. :hissy:
