I purchased a pair of license plate bulbs from vleds. Im very happy with their performance ( very bright white light) and only cost me $12 shipped. Got them bout 4 days after ordered. I've decided to replace my backup lights with vleds bulbs as well so when I use my key fob the lights will light up brighter behind the vehicle. Are these just a plug and play or is there more to them. I have heard that TB's are tempermental with the lights and I know turn signals need the flashers upgraded so they dont flash super fast with leds.

Yep, plug and play. No load resistors needed, since they don't flash. I posted my setup on a couple other member's threads about reverse lights. I got these from Mike @ Jetttstream. You can also get them from autolumination.com (about 1/3 down the page) for under $30.

Maybe its just me but will those fit in the stock TB taillight housing?

They have a 42 LED kit for less then $8 on ebay. At that price I might have to give them a try!

Are your license plate bulbs as bright as mine? :raspberry
 Probably not. I had some pretty good 5 LED LP bulbs in from V-LEDs, but one died on me, so I got some cheap 4 LED bulbs cuz the stockers made me sick to look at.

I've heard Afterburners from Jetttstream are the best reverse lights, but $50 is to pricey for me.

I just ordered these

18 LEDs should be plenty bright. If I knew then, what I know now, I may have shopped around a little more, since you can always find good deals if you dig long enough. But I am more than happy with my 40 LED reverse lights.

i have an 02 envoy with the reverse lights in the bumper. i have blue 3157 led replacement bulbs installed. they work great and have had absolutely no issues with them. only thins is they arent as bright as white would be. but it matches my blue truck lol. i also have white underglow which is unhooked for the winter

Heres the set I bought. Clearly says they are 3157 compatible. We use 3157 in all 3 rear bulbs sockets right(excluding the top mount third brake light)? For some reason they do not seem to want to snap in to the socket. :suicide: I asked the seller, just now, if any kind of special adapter is needed. Any ideas? The base seems to skinny..

The problem is with the round part of the base. It's to thick to go into the socket and there's no place for the clips that our sockets use to grab the bulb. If you look at the OEM bulb, the flat part slides in a little farther and clips to a little thicker flat part. On these LEDs that thicker flat part isn't there.

Well keep in mind my kit is slightly different then yours. From what I can see the base on the LED bulbs is longer then the OEM style bulb. The thickness was roughly the same, but after further observation(that post earlier was right before my second attempt to install them) I noticed that, like you said, It did not have the little small raised areas on the side to lock in place. If it had those I believe it MAY have fit. I think I am gona have the seller send me these instead:

From the look of it...it should fit..

Grab a phillips head screwdriver. Open your lift gate, unscrew the 2 screws on the tail light housing so you can unmount it from your TB. Remove the screws from the circuit board on the inside of the tail light housing. When you pull it off, the bulbs will be plugged into it. Replace the reverse bulb, then put it all back together. Done deal.

License Plate LEDs cought FIRE!

Thats right, those LEDs that I got of fof ebay for like $3.00 cought fire!!! I dunno if it got too hot, or I got a bad set. I noticed that it looked like one of the lights came out of the socket, so when I got a chance, I took the cover off and noticed that the thing had burned up, (got pics but @ work right now, will post tonight.) So I must hunt down the wiring harness for the license plate bulb:hissy: I figure I would just give you guys a heads up about it just in case you have the same set as I do... BTW for something small, the smell was horrible! I still cant get the burnt smell out of my garage:no:

WTF  That's some bad luck Dion. I'm guessing you just got a bad set. I've never heard of any problems like that with LEDs

Hey guys I been busy with other porjects but finally got a set of the lights.
Heres the one I got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120720162923

Good news:
They fit!
Didnt test them in the dark, but damn it looks bright out of the housing!

Bad news:
That price was a SINGLE bulb. Like wtf who sells bulbs in singles?
The other bad news is they shipped me blue not white!
I only tested it in the circuit board no in the housing where it could reflect but it looks super bright! At night you could see these from a mile away I bet!

Now I am waiting to here from the seller to resolve the issue since I purchased super white LEDs and these were clearly blue. I am talking cop car light bar blue!

However:
After reading a PM blazin and I had awhile back, he mentioned the afterburners from Jett5tar and how it was just 3 or 4 high powered LEDs. So I thought I wonder what high powered LEDs I can find on Ebay, and heres what I found:

I wonder if these might be even brighter. Of course I didnt look at the base to see if it looked like they would fit or not. Any thought guys?

68 is a lot of LEDs :D I'm sure those will be nice and bright once you get the right ones. Out of the other sets, I would probably try that first one with the super flux LEDs in it. The last one, plenty of other people have used, so we know those will work. I think someone tried the 3rd one, and was not overly impressed. Haven't seen that 2nd set before. :undecided

Yeah I know 68 is alot, but then again the jett5tars are what, 48 LEDs and yet the afterburners are only 3 LEDs but they are brighter. I just want to have the brightest thing avaliable. Not like there going to run some one off the road being used as backup lights lol. Plus I have a bad neck so some times it is hard to look back. Obviously at walmart you have little choice but when backing out my friends driveway out in BFE I am hopping these things well turn night time in to day time lol.
