Pulls overdrive fine on the highway with no trailer.

pulling a 5x10 aluminum trailer with 24" high sides, and 300lbs in the trailer, it will not hold overdrive at 70. Keeps downshifting, losing pace and repeat.

Is this normal of the i6, or maybe a plugged cat or tired motor?
I do have piston slap for 5 mins after startup

Or just run it in 3rd gear?

Truck has been excellent otherwise, cant complain. I will run it in 3rd and forget about it, if that is generally acceptable under these conditions.

thanks

With a much larger trailer and heavier load, I had a similar issue recently. I found that going faster (75-80) would solve the issue until I got into hills. Then I just put it in 3rd. 2000 RPM produces less power than 2300. Enough so that it seems to overcome the additional wind resistance. Now gas mileage is another issue. :hopeless

The torque converter on these takes very little pedal pressure to unlock and that is what you are feeling specially if you are running around 58-62 . If its a heavier load and it does this then keep it in 3rd , the TC will lock in third too. Myself I dont go much over 60 when in 3rd .
