Has anyone come across a brand of wheel bearing that actually lasts longer than a year or two? And why are the trailblazer's so hard on them?

Timkens and others more expensive ones have been well-reviewed, but most folks who put in a good replacement won't come back to tell us they're still working. All you read about is the bad ones, so those reports tend to stick in your mind or predominate the search results.

Trailvoys are hard on CCC bearings (cheap Chinese crud), so they're mentioned in failure reports here all the time.

As almost always, you get what you pay for.

What is is specifically you're trying to obtain? A bulletproof bearing for $100 won't exist. Just spend as much as you think will outlast your ownership of the truck. And then the NEXT owner will discover trailvoy and complain about the poor reliability of wheel bearings that YOU stuck him with. :dielaugh:

Mi bearings..recommend them!

While I am smart enough to defer to Roadie....my mother didn't raise any fools.....I do want to recommend MI BEARINGS. I do not work for them or anything....I just like to buy QUALITY AMERICAN MADE parts...I think they run around $125 per side or so....so far....so good...also outstanding customer service!

Let's support each other and BUY AMERICAN! Plus you wont need to change them again in 25k like some of the members who did buy Sino-made parts.

P.S. I know we have a lot of Canadian members also...no offence....as America has no truer friend.

I tried a MI Bearing. Fast shipping and all that. And it failed in under a month because I neglected to retorque my CV shaft nut that they depended on to keep it together. In contrast to all the other bearings I have seen where they were good for 2WD (no CV shaft and no nut) compared to this unit that was not assembled in the same way and I was supposed to constantly check the nut.

On other bearings I never found one that loosened up on its own, but this one did and I failed to notice it. Shame on me.

Since I failed to heed their requirements, there was no warranty, and it was a total waste of $$$. No time to dig deeper on WHY they have separate units for 2WD and 4WD, compared to all other vendors I know about who just make a robust unit for the 2WD and 4WD both. If I remember correctly, I should have bought the 2WD unit to not worry about retorquing, and they were out of stock when I needed one.

I tried American. They let me down. But since I contributed by not being cautious enough I can't totally badmouth them. $150 lesson.

Personally, I think it's silly for any offroader to buy a 4WD only bearing, because you might have to remove a shaft on the trail to limp back to pavement. A bearing that won't hold together without the CV shaft and nut being in place will let your wheel FALL OFF while you limp back to pavement. This is a bad thing. :duh:

I plan on keeping the tb for a long time. I got a price for the local napa dealer $277. ea but has a 3 year warranty. I guess that is the one I will buy..

It's not just the Trailvoy wheel bearings. On my Grand Am I used cheap autozone ones and I ended up changing them out once a year. Same style as these. I'm assuming it's a combination of cheep parts/ bad build design, but i have nothing to back those statements up. Just a assumption
