GM power steering pumps on the envoy/trailblazers/etc snap that shaft when a driver forces the wheel all the way to the extreme left or right. The pressure built up in the rack and pinion gets too extreme for the cheap pot metal to handle and the shaft "snaps" in the weakest spot. When that shaft snaps, you lose "power assist" to your steering.https://youtu.be/glF1glF1nC3w6Mw
