ok, went to autozone and got a can of freon and compressor oil. put the whole can in the system and nothing changed. then, i took the throttle body off and cleaned it (oh my god was it nasty and gunked up). put everything back together. started my engine, turned the a/c on full blast, everything went back to normal. no rpm drop, the compressor was staying on for its full cycle. the dryer thing in the corner of the engine compartement got cold to the touch and the air coming out of the vents was a lot cooler than before. i then hooked the gauge up to the low side of the a/c system and noticed it was only at 30 psi. so i went back to autozone and got another 12oz can of freon and put it in the system. now the gauge is at ~40psi. and the air is much colder than before i put the new can in.

do i need another can of freon to get it to 50 psi? or will what i have work?

thanks for all the help.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

40 psi is a bit on the high side for the low pressure side. I would just keep it there. You did well congrats!:woot:
