Transmission cooler line connector seal

Not sure that’s what the right term is, but I am referring to the place where the aluminum line goes into the radiator. It has a plastic/wire clip that holds it in place.

I’m reworking my external tranny cooler hoses and plan to use the kit from PCM. The rumor seems to be that there is a rubber seal in that female port in the radiator.

It seems like a bit of a flimsy seal and the kind of thing I would normally replace during any general maintenance. I HATE leaks.

Questions:
Can that seal be replaced? Do I have to replace the whole female connector in the radiator or can I just replace the rubber part?
Does anyone have the part number and the place where it can be purchased? Do they tend to leak after being taken apart?

Thanks for the help

BTW… Sorry for borrowing the pic without asking. I can’t remember who I took it from. Thanks for the great pic.

I hate leaks too, honestly I pulled the lines off my 02 back in 06/07 when I cut and flared them to put my aux trans cooler on. No leaks and its had at least 40k and lots of towing since then.

I dont think they are serviceable, Ive never seen one off a radiator but that doesnt mean they arent. Interesting...:undecided

P/N 15226661 CONNECTOR, TRANS FLUID CLR PIPE (3/8 BODY QUICK CONNECT) (ACDelco #15226661)
Includes retainer: (P/N 24205103 RETAINER, TRANS FLUID CLR PIPE FTG (EXPANDING SPRING WIRE) (ACDelco #24205103))

$2.55 each at GMPartsDirect, plus shipping

I've never serviced the trans. cooler, so I have no idea if the quick connect contains a rubber seal. If there is one, it must be integral with the connector, as there is no separate service part called out for a seal.

I just went out to the garage where I have a set of trans cooler lines and I checked the female receptor, while there is a little O ring inside I seriously doubt that it will come out cleanly, then you have to match it exactly with a new O ring and work that on in there, just checked rock autos website and they sell the whole female radiator fitting for $3.06, if you want I can try to take a picture of the female receptor I have here

Perfect!

Thanks! This is what i've been looking for. The part numbers make this easy.

An up-close pic would be nice if you can.

How easy is it to install into the radiator? The receptor looks like it may need to seal off the tranny fluid and the coolant...that is really just a guess by looking at the pictures. Any removal and install info would just about complete this thread.

I plan to install a PCM4less tranny cooler kit and its fitting and would really like to put a fresh receptor with seal if its not too risky.

Do you happen to know the part number for the black plastic safety that snaps over the fitting after inserting the line into the prepared fitting?

I do not think that plastic retainer is separately serviceable nor available except on new lines.
Somebody here who is smarter than I will chime in just to get a merit badge for correcting me.
Wait for it.

It (the slip-in fitting, that is) can live without it --- but it's best to have one there.

BTW -- I have replaced that o-ring numerous times. It is easy and if you have a good selection of o-rings, you'll find it in there somewhere.

It is small/thin --- wimpy-looking --- flimsy-even .... but absolutely necessary. The old ones are usually up to the task of 'doing it' again, so try it first.

Actually, they are available from rockauto.com. GM part number 15052228, and they sell for $2.95 each. Expensive little critters if you ask me.

....... hurrrumph! I didn't know that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I save them from some of the jobs I get --- have a small handful --- and it looks like I have a small fortune.

I did not either until I looked the part up. I was quite surprised!

04 LS, 4.2 L6 with 360k miles.

I know this is an old thread, although looks like the guys I need have been on it a little more recently :). Obviously, I'm here because I need some help with the connector on the return side of the radiator. Not because I'm modifying anything, but because it has recently developed a slow leak. Not leaking where it threads in, but at the line, so pretty sure it's the o-ring.

Either way, needs replaced. Rockauto actually lists two different part #s for the cooler line, radiator side, so tried them both. Part #800-619 (looks a lot like the pat vball69 mentions above)---too small (9/16= ~14mm?). Doesn't even make contact with the threads. Tried the 800-721 (18mm)---too big. Finally hit me to put that connector on a thread-checker. Definitely a 16mm..

Even went as far as trying an old one, sitting in a 03 LaCrosse radiator I helped a neighbor change about a month ago. Close, but no cigar.

Probably too much info, all to say I'm stumped. Really could use some help/ideas on how to track down the right part.

Many people will not respond to an old post that pops up unless they FOLLOWED it before.

I suggest you start anew with the specifications --- you can even copy/paste what you've already written.

Normally wouldn't try to restart an old thread, but noticed where chem_man and yourself responded to keith20mm who did exactly that.....11 years later? Didn't notice any words of wisdom for him, given that resurrection, so I didn't figure a 5 month lag between posts would be an issue.

Started a new thread yesterday-----actually have more responses to this one than I have with that one, so far.
