Wheel Offset & Backspacing help? Offroad style Rims with 1.5" Spacers

I have been reading threw the forums and cant seem to find any info on what backspacing and offset for 18"x9" Wheels. I have MarkMc's 1.5" 6x5 to 6x5.5 spacers as well. I see most guys run 17" or 16" wheels being that their serious offroaders. Im not going to be doing anything like that maybe a trails/beach here and there but mines a 2wd doing it for mostly looks and ruggedness. I have MarkMc's 2.5" lift and the ZoneOffroad 2" bodylift. Does anybody else have some info or a similar setup? Probabley gonna run a 285/60R18 A/T tire.

About to pull the trigger

2004 Envoy XL

Formerly wife's ride, kid carrier, boat hauler. Soon to be off-road play-toy/hunting truck/go-places-I-couldn't-before mobile!

About to drop coin on:

MARKMC 3” BODY LIFT

1.5" thick hub centric 6x5.0 hub side to 6x5.0 wheel side.

3" suspension lift kit

265/70R17 GUARD DOG M/T

Sticking with the stock wheels and the previously listed retreads to try and save a little upfront out-of-pocket.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?

Found the wheels I've always wanted, but Im not sure if they will fit, or what I will have to do to make them fit. I drive a 2005 Trailblazer LS 4x4

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-85-5883/

thats the link for the wheels.
I think MarkMC makes an 1.5" adapter/spacer that will allow you to mount that 6x5.5 bolt pattern.

Aside from that, from what I am reading, lift will depend on the tires you're wanting to mount.

Thanks dopp. Choosing the correct tire size is where I stand now. Any suggestions?
I'm not 100% sure with those 15's.

As you can see from my post, this is all theory for me, just repeating what I've read. (buying suspension lift, spacers and tires next week!)

With the suspension lift and spacers, I think you are somewhere in the neighborhood of 32" tires. I'm just not sure about the exact tire size with the 15" rims. (I'm sticking with the stock wheels for now) I'll be sporting something like a 265/70 17.

Good spot to check tire height if it is not specified by the manufacturer.

So I have read all 62 pages in this thread and found nothing on 255/80R17, but I'm going to make an attemp to squeeze them under a 3" lift w/ stock rims and 50mm spacers. I placed the order for these today:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ST-F-3-BS-R...Model:Trailblazer&hash=item2a1fdd5b04&vxp=mtr
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUBCENTRIC-...Model:Trailblazer&hash=item231dace916&vxp=mtr
and tires tomorrow:
http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse.com/Discount_Tires.cfm?pn=BFG-35737&pID=491
I will let everyone know how it goes.

Ok, update. Sorry it took so long but after further inspection i decided to do a complete suspension overhaul... new BDS shocks, bilstein HD struts, ball joints and tierod ends.

The 3" suspension lift is prob a bad idea the strut arm hits the springs at full extension.. not good but still driveable. the 255/80/17's are a lil bigger than 33"s and have no prob with clearing. But all in all I am satisfied. I will add pics if anybody is interested. And Thanks for the input from this thread and forum.

Sir,

Did you ever experience any issue with your differential, transmission or engine when you put up your 265/65/R17 tires? Hope to hear from you. Thanks.:)
Its been quite a while since I did my lift and in that time I've run many tire sizes, several wheels, all different weights....including 38's

The only problem I've had was the angle of the CVs makes them wear a little fast.

Absolutely no problems with the engine and trans. No dif problems that weren't already there when I started.... seems pretty much bulletproof.

I've put 60k miles on my rig with the lift and its still strong.

Newcomer to TB's Need some good advice.

If someone, somewhere, somehow could come up with a sticky chart breaking down 'possible tire fit' by "Wheel Size", "Body Lift Needed?", "Suspension Lift Needed?", "Spacers Needed?" and "Custom Mods Needed?" those of us who aspire to go for lifts/tires may be able to quit asking about our specific setup (ahem...I have 16's, planning the BDS suspension lift, open to spacers, and am totally confused :duh:)...

As a bonus, does anybody have a good explanation of how height and width affect the need for spacers and lifts? too wide needs a spacer to clear the ball joint and a lift to keep from rubbing the wheel well on compression, and too tall needs a lift to keep from rubbing the wheel well on compression and spacers to keep from rubbing wheel well on turns? It looks like /75 is the beginning of spacer requirements, 275/16 and 275/17 starts to need a suspension lift, and 285+ needs both lifts? Am I on to anything here? :worried: I'll update as I can to keep bad info off the top of the thread...

Here's the information I could gather, assuming stock wheels :)hail:Thanks to Clayton and The Roadie!):

16"

265/75/16 - needs spacers

285/75/16 (33") - needs spacers, new wheels, suspension and body lifts, cutting/hammering to fit

17"

255/65/17 - OK w/ no lift, spacers, or mods

255/70/17 - needs upper ball joint mod, possible hammering to fit

255/75/17 - needs spacers, upper ball joint mod, possible hammering to fit

265/70/17 - needs spacers, upper ball joint mod, definite cutting/hammering to fit

285/70/17 (33") - needs spacers, new wheels, suspension and body lifts, cutting/hammering to fit

305/70/17 (34") takes all of the above, plus total dedication to being *the* tallest TB of us all. (JamesDub)

:thx:thx

So i guess my question is what is the biggest tire i can go with an '03 trailblazer (LT 4x4) with a 2" body lift, front strut 1.5" lever, a 1.5" wheel spacer, on stock 16" wheels. Maybe someone can show me some pics of their TB with similar mods and larger tires. Like i said im new to TB's and would like some good advice.

My advice would be to go browse http://forums.offroadtb.com/ and check out the build threads. You'll find the best variety of options there, and plenty of pics to show how the vehicles look while in-progress and completed.

What is a front strut lever? I've never heard of that mentioned before, and am thinking this may not be an option on our platform?

Just wanted to make a note for those looking:

265/70/16 Michelin LTX M/S2 tires on my 2006 LS 4.2 4x4 with NO modifications.

They fit and I've had no problems, however there is evidence of microscopic rubbing on that upper ball joint. Clearance is probably about 1/4". I've put about 10,000 miles on these tires so far in hot and cold weather, on and off road, have taken them up to 108mph, and have had no issues. Love these tires. I'm pretty sure they're the widest & tallest tire possible on this 16" wheel without modifications.

If you want to go with the 265 width, then the tires I posted above are the largest. Again, they only have about 1/4" of clearance so be cautious if using a different tire brand of the same size. I can only speak for the michelins that I have.

I have always preferred tall and narrow rather than lots of width. And since tire sizing was invented by the same person who invented women's pant sizes, (i.e. random female= "I am a size zero" me= "So you don't exist?"), I guess I will be playing with numbers and calculators.
