Just thank GOD every day that you still have him! I lost my only child to suicide at the age of 21, and I raised her as a single parent from when she was six. Instead of feeling sad for me, hug yours in her memory and cherish him...even when he makes mistakes!

Thanks TigerMike. I can't imagine how your life can change in an instant and all day I thought of ways i should be appreciating and loving my 17 y.o. rather than feeling frustrated and annoyed for the situations he is so often putting us in. I need to try to keep in mind every day the gift of having our children with us. Your honesty and advice is much appreciated.

How about the local (or his) high school Auto Shop class for tackling the switch? It may be a job the shop teacher may want the kids to learn.

I was thinking the same thing as well! OR maybe there is a trade school or community college vo-tech department that has a mechanics course that could do it for some "subway lunch gift cards" for the students? Many moons ago, when I was a community college vocational student, all of our courses had an "open door" for students of other vocational courses, so we had a variety of stuff to learn on. The HVAC students would go work on a peterbilt or greyhound bus's a/c with the diesel shop's instructor and students, The diesel or gas automotive students would go to the Welding shop from time to time to get some welding practice, the electrical students would help the diesel and automotive shops deal with electrical wiring, the woodworking shop also taught all of us some of the secrets of upholstery as well. A good Vo-tech school will do that because the more a student learns, the more valuable he/she is in the workforce!

Just remember, we ALL were "pains in our parents' asses" when we were growing up, and the only way for us to leern is to make mistakes that cost our own money. Because he didn't have to pay for that ride, he had no reason to take care of it and appreciate it, and assumed that if he broke it, daddy/mommy would "make it all better". Now that he has learned that mommy/daddy's money id not of an endless supply, and he is walking, he'll appreciate the repaired TB, or whatever he buys to replace it. It's hard, but we have to let the babies spread their wings and learn from their goof-ups. Sadly, the facts are that junior high and high schools today have their priorities in teaching our kids to be "politically correct socialist paper-pushers", rather than teaching them to be able to take care of themselves.

Also, it's totally ok to be both "frustrated and annoyed at his mistakes" at your child WHILE "appreciating and loving" him. No one said being a parent is easy, and it's not easy to be an "upper teen" either. "Upper teens" have just enough knowledge and "cockiness" to get them into a mess, without enough knowledge to fix that same situation. Remember that he is a lump of clay that YOU have to help shape into a fine vase! Good wishes and God bless in your journey with him!

These engines tend to eat spark pkug faster than GM says, so if you are getting codes for #6 just install a new set of OEM plugs. Worked for me. I also had to replace 02 sensors earlier than called for, Auto Zone sells the same as OEM but much cheaper.
