Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this same problem with the SW headers.... My y-pipe keeps vibrating against the crossmember and it makes a hell of a noise (rattling) at idle. The shop (Vector) has adjusted it numerous times (lift it up to get clearance off of the crossmember) but it eventually works itself back down and rests on x-member and rattles again:mad: Not sure if this is a common problem or maybe I ended up with a y-pipe that's a bit out of whack:confused: ....ideas

btw...I had Vector install a heat shield around my steering shaft because one of the primaries was very close to the rubber boot and started to discolor it a bit (believe someone else posted on this same issue)......did I get a bogus set from SW or what????:worried:

HEy, I have the same setup as you and mine does not touch at all, good clearance. there is no way possible is slide down by itself except for the reason being:
1-the round clamps that clamp from the Y pipe to the 2 pipes arent tight and it lets it move down.
2-) the clamp on the CATBACK (the clamp CLOSEST to the Y pipe) is not tight enough. I had to put a shim in mine becuase the clamp was a tad bigger then the dia of the pipe. Double check [email protected]

For your particular problem I would recommend the following. Loosen the bolts where the header connects to the cylinder head. Pull the collector down to get yourself a bit more clearance and tighten the header back up while holding the collector in place. There is just a little bit of "slop" in each of the bolt holes in the header flanges (< @ 1/16th of an inch). Its not much but moving the front up 1/16th will move the collector down between 1/4" - 1/2" allowing for additional clearance. Make sure to check your clamps as well... we had a bad batch come through here where the studs in the clamps were not threaded down far enough and wouldn't tighten all the way. Tighten them down with the part of the clamp that has the bolt in it being easily accessable. Once they are tight lightly tap on this section the clamp with a hammer to see if the clamp spins on the pipe... if so then you have a bad clamp. NOTE!!! the clamps should not be slid onto the pipe any further than the slot that we made or they simply WON'T TIGHTEN because the tube isn't "giving" any to squeeze the inner tube.

Also, I'd like to mention that only one guy here at SW builds TBSS headers and that he is one of our best fabricators. Once we get our 5.3L TB in for fitment we will check a few different headers with that steering boot to see what kind of clearance we have. These headers are all fixture built and the fixture never changes so the header shouldn't either, but I will address this problem personally and get back to you guys on the forum.

Wouldn't that make it worse? Lowering the collector is going to have a negative effect because the Y-Pipe goes over the crossmember? I am assuming this is the same setup as stock exhaust routing.
