I'm going to guess, the impact from going into the ditch probably blew out a seal on the rack and pinion or cause undue pressure on a line and possibly caused a leak there. That may have been what took out your PS pump...

Well, if you decide to go with the tracks, I would suggest two options:

A: Sell the TB, buy a Jeep 4 door as a replacement, get the Dana 44 axles front and rear and the locker for the rear, then install the tracks. This is probably the best option.

B: If you really don't want to get rid of the TB, swap to a Jeep style suspension using the Jeep axles and find a better PS pump or go with a hydralic assist.

Really, i'd recommend the hydralic on either one. Otherwise your going to be blowing pumps and lines due to the extra pressure you'll be creating. Figure at max a 10" patch, and this is going overboard for a tire vs a 12" X 36" + footprint per track, your going to be increasing the resistance to the ground over 300 X's per side than stock.
