Yesterday I slammed my shifter into park and messed something up. The key would not turn all the way off, so I disconnected the battery. Today I was messing with it again. The shifter will move freely without pushing the break or the button on the handle. I took the console and everything apart and noticed the shifter rod might be bent. I tried to straighten it a bit and put everything back together. Now you actually have to push the button on the shifter to move it, but you still do not have to apply the break and the key still won't turn off or come out. I didn't notice anything else that looked like it could be broken. Any suggestions on what might be wrong or how to fix this? Does anyone know how to remove the shifter rod from the assembly because it is still bent?

Shift interlock solenoid is most likely damaged. I'll see if I can locate a diagram,
but in the mean time, you might try looking on Compnine.com for parts and the
location diagrams.

You may need to take the whole handle out in order to get the release rod clear
to straighten it.

Good Luck!
