I was wanting to take the family to the Rockies this summer for a trail drive. I know some of the guys on here( roadie) have seen some great places up there.

So does anyone have some suggestions

#1 recommendation by AlekG and me: buy trail guide books to get a good description of the trails, local conditions, flora, fauna, and history. Then choose.

Best ones for Colorado are by Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson. Their series for many states are titled "Backcountry Adventures"

Other good ones I own are smaller ones by Charles A. Wells.

Find them in the usual bookstores or at Amazon.

Great overall paper maps of the state are the Delorme series of gazetteers.

Software: Delorme Topo USA (now version 8.0) and National Geographic TOPO!
