I have an 04 TB with 157k miles. Currently having 2-3 flare when vehicle is warmed up. Shifts normal when cold. Fluid and filter changed a year ago and had a shop replaced cooler lines few months back as preventative as the lines started looking crusty. Can anyone recommend a trans shop around Northern Virginia to have it rebuilt? Appreciate your time and response.

My son lives over there near Norfolk. I'll talk to him tonight.
thanks! Went to a trans shop that did road test said that the 2-3 shift is a little soft but everything is normal. Reset the TAPS and bring it back if issues continue. No trans code present. Just getting ready to possibly have to rebuild trans.

Glad you got it looked at. Report back if things get worse

That the shift to Direct/3rd is soft - is really a harbinger of failure.

Remember that NO clutches slip during use --- never. They are harsher than you would believe unless you could somehow eliminate the torque convertor for a clutch and flywheel.
I can do this on my K5 with a THM700R4 because I have the torque convertor electrical apply on a rocker switch that I can call in or out as I see fit.

BUT ---- if I leave it IN (engaged) and let it shift normally -- you can lose your back teeth --- it shifts THAT hard!

If you abuse the clutches at all - they die if they spin. You might get away with it for a while but no outside programming or re-profiling shift points is going to repair the damage --- and believe me -- there is damage.

Water and fertilize your 10-dollar tree in the back yard so you get a big enough harvest to get your unit rebuilt to higher standards --- then YOU have a mitigating hand in how it will work and perform.

I originally took it in was because last month after a trip driving through hilly roads in Gettysburg, when going about 40-50mph in OD, the TB would shutter like it’s slipping when giving some gas. Checked fluid and it was about 1/4” below hot line. Filled about 1/2 quart of DEX 6 and it was about 1/4 above hot line. TB was fine but after about an hour later, it was doing it again on the highway for about 1/4 mile going about 65-70mph then never happened since.

You were prolly feeling the TCC Dance where it goes IN-n-OUT and keeps that cycle going until you either put the quadrant into 3rd/Direct and it magically goes away and dies out of it's misery.

Don't let transmissions seek so badly that they never land on a useable gear.

I always put an extra quart in all my transmissions --- ALL of them because it doesn't hurt anything like it states on the dipstick and when you turn and bank in 4WD, the filter can suck air. (not good in the long run).
