So i knew the truck did not have the g80 when i bought it no biggie it was pretty good at spinning both tires on gravel and snow.. so i was bored today went to my local gm dealer to price out the g80 for my envoy. so the parts guys tells me that i have to change pretty much everything in my rear diff and that it will cost me 7-8000 from gm. ive laughed before but i particularly laughed in the guys face i can buy a hole 03 envoy for that price. so my next question is have any of you guys put lockers in the rears of your truck and what needed to be changed and how much did it cost you

What a maroon.

Even at full price from GM that's only $750 for the G80 assembly. Everything else is the same. Just install labor.

You can sometimes find a G80 on Ebay, and over the years we've had members score them as cheap as $100. Typical is $300-500.

You can get them online at ringpinion.com and other suppliers.

Go find a local professional differential and drivetrain specialist for a quote. It will likely be in the $1000-1200 range.

It's so much easier to buy it from the factory installed. It was such a cheap option, too, like $200-250.

ya im i already dislike the gm dealers:hissy: and i figured that i could add one in and not have to change the shafts and everything. i was looking on car-part.com and i cant get complete whole axle assembly for 850$ i am not sure what will be better an aftermarket or a factory. i was told that eaton makes the factory ones but to gm specs that are not built as well any truth?

Eaton makes the G80s for GM. Yes. Anybody who claims an operation like Eaton would have two sets of quality requirements is full of it.

That's like the GMC dealer that told me that the Envoy production line was run with more experienced staff with higher quality standards than the Trailblazer line. What a lying SOS he was. Walked away after that whopper.

:crackup:Thats funny, I was looking at full sized pickups last week and the dealer told me the same thing when I asked why a lesser equiped GMC was 3000 dollars more than the Chevy version. I laughed and told him I just thought they put a different grill in at the end of the line. Who knew they produce crappier vehicles for Chevy than GMC?!?!

:eek:fftopic:

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one whose GM dealer likes to quote outrageously high prices for factory parts. My Envoy didn't come with the turn signal mirrors, so I called the dealer to see how much they would run me. After getting the runaround, I was finally quoted $2,000 - $3,000.

Then I found this website, and ended up spending $50 for turn signal mirrors :)
