Found out recently that my power steering cooler apparently went bad before I got the truck. Rather than replace the cooler, the previous owner just had the cooler bypassed. Chopped off the hoses (not sure why he didn't just disconnect them) and then connected them together, effectively making the lines just a big loop. No idea how long it has been that way.

I did searching on here, found that some have replaced the OEM one with a hayden oil cooler. But, Hayden makes a bunch of them. Is there any particular one that is a good fit? Or something that is better than a Hayden, like a different make?

Since he cut the original hoses, I'm hoping I can just cut the hose section off entirely to the hard line, and attach new hoses there. OEM PS cooler lines look to be a bit expensive...

Also, I know GM doesn't usually put unnecessary parts on vehicles, but just how important is the PS cooler anyway? None of the other vehicles I've had have had one...

All this talk about failing PS lines & PS coolers makes me want to remove my bumper cover, and crawl down to check the status of mine!!

I would replace it and hook a new one back up, thats just me. It was there for a reason. If you go with Hayden coolers, find one that matches the OEM one as closely as possible.
Maybe something similar to this (and its only $27.95)
