I just recently purchased a trailblazer and of course want to modify the exhaust. I really want the magnaflow catback as it sounds awesome on my camaro. but when i go to magnaflows site they only have two options, one for the 6.0 SS and the I6. I have the 5.3

Now i found one thread in here where one guy said that any 6.0 SS exhaust cat back will fit the 5.3 but no one chimed in and verified it. its the second post in this thread http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=80903

So does anyone have any input?

also, this is the setup i want http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=all&id=2397

i did call magnaflow and ask them and he said they didn't have a setup specific for the 5.3, but he didn't seem very intelligent either

thanks in advance

I'm anxious to hear the response to this as well. My uncle just drove off in my 5.3 V8 and as much as I love the way that thing sounds, it needs to sound louder... Hope someone can enlighten us about what we may be able to do to our 5.3's.

hey man i wouldn't get to excited about that system. from what i've read it will fit but it is way too quiet and in my opinion isn't even worth it.

for me i've decided to just to go with muffler 11229 and have the resonator deleted, sounds way better

granted those are both SS's so won't sound quite the same, but should be close

also sorry for posting the OP in the wrong section, shoulda been under the 5.3 area

SWB V8 is a SWB V8. Period. 5.3 or 6.0, doesnt matter. Headers, y-pipes, catbacks, heck even intakes, and cams (wouldnt recommend this though) fit.

Stop thinking of the SS as a mystical vehicle that doesnt share any parts, at the end of the day its a GM small block just like the 5.3s.

Just pick up an SS catback system.....I went with the OEM Catback on my 5.3....If you look around in the classifieds or on TBSSOwners you can snag one cheap....I got mine for $50....Just bolt it on!! You may even be able to pick one up for free, you just have to look. IMO sounds as good as any aftermarket and at a way more reasonable price!!:D

They do sound the same.....I've had mine side by side with quite a few SS's and with the same exhaust you can't tell the difference!!

Mike, I wouldn't bother with the MF catback either. Check out Stainless Works. They have a couple different systems that fit the SS which will work on our 5.3s also.

ya i said screw it after cost and sound that it produced since it still had a resonator on it. i ended up buying a muffler online and chopped up the exhaust myself. brought it to my local exhaust shop and they welded in the new muffler and piping for a hundred bucks. total cost with muffler 150. well worth it

I put a MF catback on my 09 Impala SS and it sounded good but I wasn't impressed with the fit. I adjusted it the best I could but couldn't get the tips to line up and it still leaked at the clamps. I ended up taking it to an exhaust shop and they did some cutting and bending to align the tips and welded the joints. I put Borla on a GTP I had years ago and I don't remember having any fitment issues with that system.

sounds awesome! what muffler did you end up going with?
magnaflow11229... it's the shortest of that style muffler, get a longer one if you want it quieter. i bought it from here

http://www.truckpartshub.com/product/magnaflow-11229p-universal-muffler

kind of an off place but i ordered with paypal just in case and it was at my door four days later

also no one can view that video anymore, wasn't paying attention and noticed i had my plate number showing. i'll record a new one and get it up...

Mikes, here's a video of mine taken way back in March 2006 right after getting it done.

i had watched that during my search to figure out which exhaust to go with.... flowmaster has never been my cup of tea but to each their own. magnaflow is the only exhaust i've ever heard on anything that doesn't sound raspy and hollow :m2:

EDIT: that's if you leave the cats on.... sounds like poo with the cats off

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj5gIQDLgkQ
this has that hollow sound i can't stand.. the rasp was from the microphone
