That is the rear impart bar -- the hitch receiver goes through the center and supports the center of the bar.

I also need the impact bar, but it has been discontinued long ago so mine is going into the body shop tomorrow to be hit with a big grinder for the rough spots.

Looks to me like this includes the hitch, several others, too, if you search on the part number. Not sure if the XUV is different, my parts list seems to indicate that it fits alll 02-09. You might also try #15094349 as I found it on another parts list.

Thanks for the info. I tried carparts but they seem to be a front for other suppliers. I added the items to my cart, and they showed in stock, but when I checked the CSR said that the parts are obsolete and no one has stock.

The body shop tried a bunch of aftermarket hitches, but none fit due to the way the receiver goes under the impact bar.

I've searched high and low for a part number for the hitch assembly, but have found no parts diagrams that show the hitch itself.

I don't understand that you wouldn't trust it after repairs.

It's not like you have a Class V or even a Class IV hitch on the back of you TB ... and a good body shop --- IF THEY MAKE MAKE THE REPAIR - will fully know of their warranty of integrity and full suitability of their repairs coupled with their company's legal liability insurance, and they'll make it right.

Your state may even make a subsequent failure --- should it happen --- a greater liability and have laws to protect you as the customer --- above and beyond what you might know.

If I had the same situation, and the shop was fully ascribed and actually performed such a repair ... I'd be happy to tow The Queen Mary (the ship, not the stripper) and wouldn't worry about it.

I think you're agonizing over a non-issue.

RS - you are quite correct. Hence why I am trying to find a completely new factory hitch. As a backup plan, I'm also searching the salvage yards for an Envoy with front end damage in hopes that the hitch is undamaged.

The body shop was able to bend it back so that it supports the impact beam but told me not to tow with it. And due to safety and liability issues, I am heeding their advice.

Wait a minute.... the fixed the hitch and then told you to not tow with it?

So now it's just an ornament --- right? Any safety and liability is on THEM, not you.

I'd be holding SOMEONE'S feet over the fire long before now.

The body shop straightened it so that it is somewhat aligned, and it once again supports the center of the impact bar as designed.

The 7-pin receptacle hangs down below the hitch as the plate that connects them is cracked. My hitch cover that hides everything was destroyed in the accident, and has been obsolete for years so I'm hoping one shows up on eBay one of these days.

Overall, it looks a lot better than it did, but I am particular and would like to get the new hitch so that I can again use the truck for towing.

I don't know where my last post webnt --- so now I have to type it all over again on a make-believe keyboard with my fat thumbs ..... this is gonna hurt me when I finally get it done.

Hell with it -- you get it raw --- typos and all ... here goes ...

I wopulkd use that hitch as it is designed for several reasons

1. the shop is professional and if the repair it - they have insurance if it fails.
b. it is really a LOT stronger then you think and it ws designed to have --- maybe 200% safety factor abnd I'd go for it.
III. keep up your search and have them install it when/if you actually scrounge one up -- after all --- they repaired it and if they are smart - to eliminate any work-related liability ---, they should sing and dance when you bring them a decent replacement.

Go for it dude --- they are in the fire - not you.

Cabn you tell how much I resent shops doing crap work and then trying to absolve themselves of any liability for the ex-burger flippers they hire.?/

Color me mad -- for you, as a thorn in their side - not yours.

This is one of the highest rated body shops in the area, but I'm having doubts as to their work.

When I picked up the truck, I noticed a large lump at the top of the bumper caused by damage to the impact bar. On the XUV, the tailgate would open to the side, but if I would have tried opening it down, the lower edge would have dragged on the bumper chipping the paint at a minimum, or bending the edge.

As the backup camera I had installed was no longer working, I pulled the tailgate cover and found that there was no power to the camera. Since it tapped into the backup lights, I figured they disconnected it when they pulled the bumper.

I took it back and asked them to fix both issues. They were able to adjust the impact bar so the hump is now gone, but said they have no idea how to work on wiring and that I should take it to an audio shop.

More multimeter hunting for me this weekend.

I've found aluminum foil for crimp connectors and wires just twisted together and left naked inside fenders.

Body shops have to be watched carefully and made to correct anything they disconnect or mess up.

Are they a member of a Body Shop Owner's/Operator's group? Write and write and write until you get results.

The noisiest wheel gets respect, the hell with grease --- which is what you're getting ---> a grease job.

I absolutely hate body shops ... and as an inspector for claims against them by Auto Club ... I found insects painted into new paint and just leveled out and clear-coated.

An entomologist would have fun in 2000 years if he found those fenders and hoods with all the insects preserved for eternity.​

I used to work in a body shop during summers in college after my auto shop day job mixing paint. Learned a lot of what and what not to do.

I've seen a lot of what you describe. My favorite was panels made of Bondo. Not just to fill small dents, but large dents that should have been removed with a hammer and dolly.
