Key FOB replacement

I would like to let anyone who is looking to replace key FOBs for any reason that I found a two pack of brand new FOBs for my '04 that worked first try programming. they were under $25 for both on Amazon. I was just about willing to pay $90 for one that may have needed dealership reprogramming.

just wanted to pass that info along because ive seen the cost of those so much higher everywhere ive looked and i can hardly believe they work at that price. so glad to finally have a way to unlock doors without going in the driver door! saving money is always good too

I dont shop on amazon and havent used my key fob in probably 5 years. I would like use it again. I dont know if my rear liftgate module is bad or if I need a new remote ?

you can pull the pass through connection to the liftgate there is usually broken wires inside that. i had the power rubbing right on the ground in there. check that before you buy a module. then check the rest of the connectoins for corrosion if that doesn't fix it. if you find a damaged wire might as well fix all of them in the boot because sometimes they break inside the insulation.

Would the dealer have a remote for it ?

yes. the dealership or any parts store. probably even wallmart. rock auto had them for a bit less but everywhere else besides the one place charged just under $100 for one FOB. the dealership may want to charge you to program it also.

I've bought a couple of fobs from Amazon ... they work well and have very good range. I'm satisfied.

You don't have to go anywhere near the dealer to buy or program fobs.
In fact, only go to dealerships to but new vehicles.
Don't cross their threshold after unless there's a recall or free services for the life of the vehicle.
If they have free coffee and pastries, then you can go to the dealership.
Free popcorn is not a sufficient reason to enter their facility.
PS ... you have an automatic tailgate? Wow! I'd like one too!

Yes they do.

PPS ... have you tried to program the fob?

It's easy... even a dealership lotboy can do it.

A few years ago I put new batterys in it and it didnt work and I tried another remote and that didnt work. So I have no idea. I was reading it might be the lift gate module but never check that
I've bought key fobs for several vehicles from this place (an ebay seller)

The quality of the remotes is fantastic, they work perfectly, the price is right, shipping is fast, and they come with vehicle specific instructions.

You are welcome. The key fobs I purchased from them 6 plus years ago are still working perfectly!

Yea thanks. So how do I check the liftgate control module ? Should I just start with getting a new remote ?
I would go ahead and do what Mr. Sparky recommended in post #3 - inspect the wiring, while you wait for the new key fobs.

im not sure if i can post this actual address but the company i purchased from is remotesremotes.com and it was ten or eleven bucks per FOB. look identical to the stock FOBs.
Look on the back of the remote, there is a GM #, the #1 ends with 008..#2 ends, 009, this is the # you need to match, mine came with simple instructions.(even a caveman can do it)
Got mine off Ebay, about $20
