I bought an 04 Trailblazer (EXT LS 4X4, 4.2L) and will take delivery next weekend. It has low mileage (32K) and I'm not sure how many details I will get regarding it's maintenance history.

So what do you recommend I inspect and/or replace? (I'll give the belt, hoses, filter, fluids, brake pads, etc. an inspection.)

I plan on replacing the fuel filter and from reading on this forum, cleaning the throttle body. I'm an "over-maintenance" guy and will probably put new spark plugs in even if it's not necessary yet. (AC Delco Iridium okay? I don't want to pay out the nose for the dealership double platinums if I can't help it.) I will probably replace the fan belt regardless of how it looks just so I know how what I have. (Gatorback okay?)

What else to you recommend I inspect or replace?
Thanks.

I'm buying it from my father-in-law so I could't pass up the "relative" discount even though I wasn't in the market. The reason I say I don't expect a maintenance record, my father-in-law is one of those bare-bones maintenance kind of guys. (Changes the oil timely but not much beyond that.)

I doubt the battery is original but my father-in-law can fill me in on that. I read somewhere its' a 30 minute job to replace. Wow.

Plan on looking at the brake pads. Probably pick up a K&N air filter for it as well.

Update..Picked up my '04 TB

Well I took delivery of my father-in-law's TB yesterday. 34,800 miles. First off, I have to apologize for all you TB owner's out there. This one was a little neglected.

The tires, battery, belt, fuel filter, trans. fluid, and coolant are all factory original. It's not that the truck was abused but it just wasn't used much in the last five years and preventive maintenance wasn't on my father-in-law's priority list. (I guess you can say that's a complement to the factory parts.)

Today I was able to put on a new belt and new fuel filter. I also cleaned the throttle body. (It really wasn't too dirty.) Tomorrow I plan on changing the coolant. The temp. gauge seemed to be running higher than it should. Probably the Dex-Cool has lost it's effectiveness. I'm going with new upper/lower hoses & thermostat while I'm at it.

Overall, the truck is in great shape and I should see many miles of road with it. The only minor thing I noticed is that there is a small oil leak around the cam actuator solenoid. I'll post a thread down the road when I want to deal with that.

Thanks for everyone's input.
