Hello all! I drive or drove until a few days ago a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. It seems that I have broken my intermediate shaft (the one that runs through the oil pan). I called looking for the part, only to find out that it is a dealer only part and cost around $600. As a recently laid off teacher this is a bit steep. Just wondering if there is an aftermarket one out there, or if someone knows where I could find one cheaper?

Thanks

Thanks so much for the info. I am a seventh grade teacher, but my husband is a ford mechanic. I am not sure he knows what is going on. I guess I should just take it in. Thanks so much for the info.

To be honest with you, this is all I know... The front end makes a noise that to me sounded like metal dragging on concrete. My husband pulled the front passanger side wheel off he found what we were told was the intermediate shaft to be busted. He showed me the casing and how it moves very loosely??? That's about all I know. When he spoke to a mechanic friend that works for a chevy dealer, he said it was the intermediate shaft, but other that that only my husband has looked at it, and he was not sure how to identify the part other than saying it runs through the oil pan... but he does have the mechanical knowledge to fix it, if that is whats wrong. I just need to know if it really is the intermediate shaft.... Thanks again all!

Hope this will help

It is the bearing casing connected to the oil pan on the right side of the motor. I believe my husband said it was #1, 2, and 3 in group 56 for the diagram. There is about 2 and a half to 3in. of slop in that bearing housing. Any ideas???? About how much are the parts and ehat are they called... I toolk a picture of the issue but it won't upload. Sorry

Thanks again!

Still unsure!!!

I really don't have the cash to take my trailblazer to get it fixed. My husband can fix it but I am unsure what parts to order. I have a picture of the issue (still intact) any ideas??? I believe it it #1,2,and 3 on the diagram above but when I was looking on the parts list it gave me 2 different # 3's, which confused me... I will try to attach the picture, but if i can't I am not sure what else to do?? None the less. Thanks for everyones help...
