one of the speakers does not work, and i was looking to just buy a couple new ones and replace both of them. Before everyone tells me to upgrade all of them...I cant right now, and am not interested in do so. I wouldnt replace them at all if the right rear worked :( So i guess i need a 2 ohm speaker, 5 1/4 in?
First problem, will they just connect to existing wiring? i need plug-n-play right now.
Second, i have no idea which type of speakers to get, 2way/3way/4way? I am not so worried about the brand.
When i checked to see how much a new oem speaker would be...even if bought by my brother who manages a GM dealership, it would cost $70. or i could just get two new ones for $50ish? cheaper is better at this point in time lol.

Thanks for the help, i have been searching forums for a while now and not finding what i need :/

Couple things:
Replacing both backs at the same time is the smart thing to do, if you can't do the fronts at the same time - so be it.
Unfortunately, you'll have to do some kind of wiring, unless you buy them from someplace like crutchfield which will include the pigtails to go from the stock plug to your speakers - otherwise, be prepared to cut and install spade connectors (easy).

I'm 99% sure the stock speakers are not 2 ohm. I just pulled one of mine for the same reason to check it and i distinctly remember they weren't 2 ohm. I think they're some oddball like 6 ohms or something. Going to 2 ohms might get you a little more output, but I don't know what it'll do to the stock head unit. I intend to do all four of mine at 2 ohms shortly. I'm a big kicker fan and have been interested in there coax 6.5" speakers, but that's me.

As for 2-way, 3-way - for the rears it will make less difference. The rear speakers do not put out full range sound at all volumes. The louder your stereo the less bass they put out. That's just the way our systems work.

All of that being said, there is of course the matter of WHICH actual audio setup you have - there are several. Are you bose? Lux or non-lux? No amp? I'm not sure just any-old-speaker would play nice with a bose lux setup - I don't know.

Crutchfield is your friend - shop there, even if you buy elsewhere.

I just did all speaker replacement. The rears are easier than front ones.

The tools you will need:
1. Torx screwdriver (dont remember the size)
2. Flat small screwdriver
3. Set of metric sockets. As far as I remember you will need 10mm. Extension and the ratchet.
4. Wire stripper. Knife or wire cutters will work too.
5. Set of 4 Ohm 6.5in replacement speakers. I got the cheap ones 3-way for around $15 from Frys Electronics.
6. May be a drill ( I did not need one). For some reason 6.5in speakers differ in size. The replacement was slightly bigger but I still managed to put screws in factory holes. New speakers usually come with wires and snap-on contacts.
7. Electric tape.

Whatch some videos on youtube on how to remove TB door panels. It is very easy.

Here is the procedure
1. Remove the panel (you will need 10mm drive here)
2. Using torx screwdriver un-mount factory speaker
3. Disconnect the wiring from the speaker
4. Cut supplied speaker wires to the length of about 6inch from the snap-on connectors. Using wire-strippers remove 1/2 inch of insulation .
5. Cut-off the factory speaker connector (I assume there is no power on the head unit)
6. Using wire-strippers remove 1/2 inch of insulation on factory wires.
7. Connect factory wires with new speaker wires by twisting exposed copper. One at a time. Isolate each wire with electric tape.
8. Snap connectors on new speaker and install speaker with torx screwdriver.
9. Re-install the panel.

Done.

It took me about 15-20 minutes per door.

Now i need to know what type of speaker to buy to replace the two rear door ones? Mid range/Full range?
I dont know what any of this means lol, please someone point me in the right direction so i can have rear sound again and put the door panels back on!

Personally I would go with the Sony Explodes for $34 that is a pretty good deal really I have had their stuff in the past and they sounded pretty good (better than stock). The ones for $12 are just way too cheaply constructed with weak voice coils and paper surrounds and will sound like junk and if you ever crank them up thy will soon become paperweights which is what you already have so spend the extra couple of bucks and you will be way happier and you won't have to replace them again in a few months...trust me on this one. I spend a couple grand on all of my sound systems because I like the clean sounds and booming bass with flip out DVD monitors and touch screens!

When i graduate pharmacy school, and pay off my 300K Debt, ....Maybe i will be able to afford a couple thousand for audio system!
I would love to have a great system, but at the same time its not that important to me. If i could do anything, i want more bass. Used to have subs in a previous car :) Dont think i need to go that big but i would like some good speakers with bass

Thank you for your help!!

I know what you are saying working on paying off 150k in student loans for my masters degree but it was well worth it because I can now afford all the things I like to do and support a family without worrying about money!

out of those 3 pioneer(I hate pioneer) but the other two were 3 or 4 way and specially if you like base then it your only choice. But I know you said not for but check Chrutchfield I got two pair for the price of one pair and it comes with easy instructions connectors and adapters if needed!I bought Polk and man they can give you tons of base on a stock system(you can feel it).

You are running a stock head unit so you only have maybe 35 watts available go with those Sony Explodes and you will not be disappointed they will give you the most Bass (not base) for the money

Problem Fixed! took of both door panels, it was the speaker that was the problem and not the wiring to it (thank god!).
Bought some cheap $30 speakers to replace em and everything is back to normal :)
I went with cheap speakers because
A. I am a Broke College Grad Student
and B. I was told that i would not be able to get any significant bass from em unless i spent a lot more, and because the way the car is set up, they are more meant as filler sound and not much more. so the car just doesnt send more bass to em :(
Im thinking of getting a sub, but it probably wont happen haha.
my main issue with the sound system in the Envoy is that it ALL comes from in front of you. The dashboard screams at you, and you get bass from there as well! I would like to hear the music equally from all directions ideally. Since that isnt going to happen, i will just look for that in the next car i get :) ...after graduation of course...2 years +change...and after paying down some of my 300k dept...
I just try not to think about these things!!

Thank you ALL.

I don't think it will fit because of how the plastic door panel is molded. I took my rears off 1 year ago though so you would do well to look at it yourself. The panel comes off easy in 10 min you can pull it and look for yourself.

Hey I don't know if you still have this truck or not but what size speakers did you install in the front and back? I was think 6.5 for back and 5.25 for front..also should I replace my dash tweeters? They haven't been the problem. But my front and rear speakers start to make whirring sound after about a 15 minute listen on my aftermarket indash..any suggestions?? 🤔
