We have the AVS brand deflector on five vehicles and we have no fit issues at all.

1) You might simply have a defective one

2) If not, i would use those little guards they give you to protect the fender and hood.

all of the AVS that we have do not have any play at all. Like i said before, i think that your simply have a defective one.
