It was my understanding from many years ago that you couldn't weld on a patch to fix a control arm mount issue like that. Only a new frame part would do. GM sells that front part of the frame specifically for those sorts of repairs. A body shop could tell you for sure. We used to know of a resource with that sort of exploded parts views, but alas, they died.

It's on the frame in the rear--- just behind the read drivers side door-

not the front--
perhaps i could fab a bracket and bolt on to the frame???

I was just wondering if anyone ever found a fix for this issue?
I have been hearing a rattle in the rear end of my 02 trailblazer.
After some investigation I have the same issue as mentioned above.
Stopped at a body shop on the way home from work yesterday and they said it can’t be replaced as its part of the frame.
Bad news to say the least!!!
Only have 106K on it and is in great working condition otherwise…

Thanks

funny same exact thing on my 03 trailblazer ltz

I hooked up a small trailer
and heard a crack

rusted rear trailing arm broke right of

upon further inspection, the upper mount is all sorts of rusty

drove it like that for a while but threw my allignment off
and caused my tires to wear quickly
and my shocks are bad too.
Still paying on the car, and this happened before my 12th payment.

Dealer said not covered at all under warranty.
seems to be a common problem

I did get a new arm installed but there was no guarantee it will hold

I plan to have a friend weld a plate to secure it better
and hope it holds as I bought this SUV to tow my small camper

living in upstate NY provides a rusty under carriage though....

same thing happened to my '02 TB. Heard a clunking noise and it really started getting loud as I reversed out of my driveway over the curb. I saw that BOTH of the Upper control arms had snapped in half at exactly the same place! When I removed the drivers side arm, the inside of the frame looked like swiss cheese. Very rotted out. And the plastic gas tank is on the other side of the frame, so welding a patch onto the frame just got more expensive. My fabricator buddy is going to McGyver something to make it work
