Hello all. I'm not a new member but have just been reading and learning. I love my 03 Envoy. I just completed my homemade CAI from pvc yesterday. I will post a BOM if anyone hasn't already done so. I already had the K&N air filter so my total cost was about $35.00 including insulation wrap from Home Depot.

Homemade CAI

I'm not sure how well it's working. I hooked up the scan tool after I completed it and ran diagnostics to confirm no codes. I also did real time monitoring while running in the driveway. With an outside ambient temp of 92 F the IAT was running at 98 to 99 with the hood down and coolant at 210. I probably should develop a set of test parameters with and without insulation to verify the insulation is worth installing. Fifteen feet of pipe insulation tape was only $4.87.

Home depot $35.00 cai

Here are some pictures before and after. I used a 45* and a 22.5* to make sure I could access my Trans. dipstick. I didn't notice much difference in IAT between insulated an non insulated except on freeway.

Parameter DIC ambient temp IAT Ins IAT uns

Parked i driveway coolant temp 185 84 125 130
20 min. stop and go not exceed 45 85 104 105
20 min. freeway between 65-70 85 93 97
