If it makes you feel better, the other person may have bid $200, you don't know. All you know is that the next bid amount above your (highest) bid was $0.99, bringing the total sale to $60.99. You may well have bid $75 after that, and if the otther person put a max bid of $150, the total would have been $75.99 and you would still have lost. And using your theory, you would have still lost by $0.99
