My 02 TB with 39k on her had some grinding and thumping up front. First noticed it at low speeds backing out of driveway and pulling away. Sounded like brake pads were engaged with sand in them. The thump was like a steel rod jammed in the tire hitting the undercarriage. Kinda like baseball cards in the spokes. Anyway, I thought brakes. Wrong! Pads and rotors replaced at 26k right before I purchased it used(sorry....pre-owned). TB is in deep sand on the beach alot, but I clean it up everytime with sprinkler. My mech-a-nick buddy says....wheel bearing. OK. Do some searching here on trailvoy. Noises are not matching. Turns out front bearings and lower ball joints were spent. Replaced both, noises gone. $800 for both sides, ball joints are MOOGS and i can grease them now. Now I think my rotors are warped from it.
