GM says it is notifying 1,100 dealers that it will end their contracts with the automaker.

What does this mean really? That gm just wont supply those dealers anymore with cars or allow them to do warrenty work or what?

What is going on here, this is getting crazy.

Yeah, basically they won't be GM dealers anymore. Chrysler notified 780 some yesterday. While this sucks and is unfortunate, it had to happen. For years now Ford has consolidated Ford Lincoln and Mercury into sortof mega dealerships, and Chrysler has done the same with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and the former Plymouth, yet in the town i live in alone there's 3 GM dealers. Thats alot of unnecessary overhead, etc. We have a very large, decent Chevy dealer, a Buick/Pontiac dealer that will be pretty pointless without Pontiac, and an absolutely tiny GMC Cadillac dealer that only has enough room for like 10 cars outside and one in their tiny building. GM wants fewer, larger, state of the art, profitable dealerships
Insane.

I hope they can pull through in the long run.
And we won't even know which ones until they tell us themselves:hopeless
Other than location, and distance traveled for maintenance, will this affect parts cost, or labor fees?
Anyone know who is on the list of closures? I am getting warranty work done on Tuesday.

Our dealership has been top notch and is right around the corner.
Yup it sucks fricken G.W Bush its all his fault
It is all part of the times and it will only hurt the customer more since there will be less competition. Wait until Saturn, Pontiac, what ever else GM will close plus Chrysler closes their dealers. I would be real worried if I was not one of the best employees at the dealers that will stay open. It won't be hard to find a replacement now.
well it's a good thing i work for Ford....lol

Chrysler's list of closings was made public because of going into bankruptcy. The GM closings are between GM and the dealer at this time. Dealer may or may not disclose if their franchise is not being renewed.
I really like the dealer I go to. They announced a dealership is closing in Crystal Lake, Il. so my fingers are crossed its the Pontiac and not the Chevy dealer. They have replaced cracked chevy emblems and even the floor sills with the chevrolet plates under warranty.
