Fuel filter dissection

I took a long trip over the weekend and got a measly 14.8mpg (281 miles/18.9g), mostly highway but some stop and go through the small towns. Usually average around 19. That is with the heavy wheels and audio gear.

I had not done the fuel filter in the last 25K, so I did it today. Couldn't hardly blow through the old one. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

Cut the case open.

Neat, huh?

Here is a sample of the paper.

I rubbed that small sample and here is all the crap that was lodged in it.

I'll be taking a long trip next weekend and will post my mpg results.

:undecided So are you a gas whore or stick to one brand, me Sunoco one station if I can help it.
........Come to think of it looks like grass clippings.lol......
50/50 between royal farms and exxon. Only other local choice is wawa which yielded a decrease in mpg.
used to do exxonn ,mobil Ran 100% better after a while, when I switched to sunoco ........Much better Whilst sniffing the tailpipe too:D:crazy:...

paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
I have not gone on a long highway ride yet. My daily commute to work is roughly a 70/30 mix of highway/city...in weeks leading up to the fuel filter replacement I was getting around 270/18g for a craptacular 15ish mpg.

This week:

324 miles/18.1 gallons = 17.9
The only "good dirty" is when you build a new enclosure and blow mdf dust out of the port.
Todays trip results (well actually yesterdays)

263 miles - 14.4gal = 18.2, was stuck in DC rush hour traffic for a while
319 miles - 16.2gal = 19.6
What did you use to cut it open? Just wondering what sparks from a cutoff wheel or anything powered would do to the residual gasoline left over... :undecided
I used a cut off wheel, and there were plenty of sparks:cool:
