I took a long trip over the weekend and got a measly 14.8mpg (281 miles/18.9g), mostly highway but some stop and go through the small towns. Usually average around 19. That is with the heavy wheels and audio gear.

I had not done the fuel filter in the last 25K, so I did it today. Couldn't hardly blow through the old one. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

Cut the case open.

Neat, huh?

Here is a sample of the paper.

I rubbed that small sample and here is all the crap that was lodged in it.

I'll be taking a long trip next weekend and will post my mpg results.

I have not gone on a long highway ride yet. My daily commute to work is roughly a 70/30 mix of highway/city...in weeks leading up to the fuel filter replacement I was getting around 270/18g for a craptacular 15ish mpg.

This week:

324 miles/18.1 gallons = 17.9

What did you use to cut it open? Just wondering what sparks from a cutoff wheel or anything powered would do to the residual gasoline left over... :undecided
