how do you know when it's bad?

I have the original and I'm at 99,500 miles. My truck makes a pulsating vibration sound while coming to a stop or rolling around at idle. Any Ideas? Can it be a pulley? It seems to be a little worse with the A/C on but it still does it On of Off. it drives fine ither than that. :hissy:

When the fan clutch fails, it fails so that it is fully engaged all the time. Spins so fast it makes a "roar" that sounds similar to a jet engine. What I would do, is pull off your serpentine belt and start your engine. If sound dissapears, you have narrowed it down to pulleys/accessories driven by that belt. You then can manually spin things to feel for looseness or roughness.

u say youre getting a vibation... with the mileage you have... i would turn off engine. pop the hood. and then grab the fan from the sides... try to move it from side to side... the fan should not move at all... if the shaft moves I would replace the pump and fan clutch at the same time...
