Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and need some info. My lady friend has an 05 Envoy SLT. The check engine light came on and I tried to hook my scanner to read codes and I can't get a connection. Anything different about the pin placement on this vehicle? Or am I just not making good connection? Any help greatly appreciated.

OBDII is a standard. It should work if your scanner is updated with 05 software. Make sure your connection is good. If you still have a problem with scanning check the ecm fuse and make sure it is good.

Welcome!

The OBD power connector on this vehicle is fused by the CIGAR fuse #13 in the front fuse block under the hood. (There is another fuse block under the rear seat - driver's side, but that's not involved.)

It astonishes a lot of folks because I don't think it's documented in the Owner's Manual, and I had to do a lot of digging in the shop manual to find it.

Thanks for quick and good answers, Roadie & Fefanatic! Last year I bought an 07 PT Cruiser so I had to buy a new scanner with the new CAN standard, therefore I think my scanner is up to date. It works fine on the Cruiser and my 02 Olds Alero. The check engine light has gone off so I think it was probably a gas cap issue, but I want to be ready next time it happens. I'll check the fuse, but she keeps her GPS plugged in most of the time and it works OK. I'm going to take the OBD connector off and be sure I am getting a good connection. Will update after that.
Thanks again,
Mike

Thanks Neelskit. Haven't taken time to check out fuses and connection yet, but you guys have given me good info. Can I just use my DVM to check for 12V at pin 5 & 16 on connector?
Thanks
Mike

Oil Change light can't be reset with a OBDII Scanner. You would either have to go through the DIC if you have one or press the gas pedal three times. It's in the owner's manual

ROADIE, You are 'the man'! Finally replaced #13 fuse under hood and now all aux and lighter holes are live AND my scanner works beautifully on the OBD connector. Thanks for digging through the shop manual to help.

Thanks for the kind words. I needed to do it for myself, after my laptop charger's inrush current blew the fuse, and then the scanner stopped working. Suspecting a connection, I just confirmed it with the schematic. Dumb GM tech writers could have so easily put in a footnote in the manual, but they can't conceive of a mere OWNER plugging in a scan tool into THEIR diagnostic port. Height of arrogance and disrespect for the owners - you can see it in so many aspects of the design.

No. They (Helm, Inc.) sell paper copies for $120+, and a DVD with a lot of other vehicles for $400. Since it's copyrighted, you won't find a legal PDF anywhere on-line. Sometimes you can find a cheaper one on Ebay. It's over 2000 pages!
