Quick answer would be awesome as I'm elbow deep in this mess and at a stopping point. I can't quite find a straight answer when I search. Did the 4.2 ever have a balancer chain on the opposite end of the motor? Was about to pull the rear main seal off and look, but appears to be some kind of special white gasket, didn't want to pull it if there is no chain there and deal with finding or making a gasket. The timing chain kit I purchased specifies it is only for the 4.2L, and it came with the smaller chain for the balancer (triple or quad style links), for some reason.

What brand of gasket set did you buy????? (please say: "Felpro" --- please!)

PS: That chain that you're describing is called a "Hy-Vo Chain".

Yes, the gaskets I got are Felpro. So far, I've only needed a water pump and transfer case gasket. So does the 4.2 have a balancer hy-vo chain on the rear of the engine? I can't seem to find definitive information. Looks like maybe the 5.3L do, but can't find if the 4.2L do.
