Hey guys!
I had a few questions. a couple of nights ago I ran over something that was as big as a pop can on the highway going about 60mph. The only thing is it definitely was not a pop can. I was almost sure that I blew my tire and bent my rim. (No damage done) I pulled off on the side of the highway and was wondering since I have a 6 head strobe kit in my car, is it legal to turn those on in an emergency? I do have the rear strobes in red. The fronts are white.

2nd question, I have a siren (I don't know why, don't ask.. and no I don't use it.) I got an extremely great deal on eBay. Is it legal to use the horn feature as a regular horn?

Both of the answers for these questions fall under state laws. You really need to get on your states law website and do some research to find the correct answer.

Yeah what Coyote said. I'm pretty sure that you can't use a siren in any state but you should really check your state's laws.

A friend of mine has a siren horn...just for gags I suppose..def a head turner...I have no idea if it's legal...I want a horn that screams the song "CRAZY B**ch"! Hahaha...now that would be ahead turner...

:iagree: It really depends on your state. I have a siren, but can use ONLY the air horn function of that siren, and that's all I use. I have no need or desire to lose my license for impersonating a LEO.

As far as the strobes. If you are parked on the side of the road, and they warn people of a hazard, I would see nothing wrong with that. I have used mine (blue and white) when pulled over on the side of the road when other's have broken down. You can't be too careful these days. You're not putting them on to get through traffic or pretend to pull people over, so I don't think a LEO would have an issue unless they are having a REALLY bad day.

I would not use the air horn until you find out about your local laws. I believe you when you say you don't use the siren, because I do the same :yes:

i would think ur ok as long as they are white only... but illinois motor vehicle law does state against flashing, strobbing, or rotating lights unless otherwise entitles to... just make sure u have a orange vest and say ur construction lol


best bet would be call the state police and ask them...

Others require you to be affiliated with some either emergency services organization while others only require you to be posing a hazard to "vehicular traffic on a moving thourofair," explain that one to me. So you really just need to go on your states website and search for local laws and ordinances. Be careful though, some states laws dont specify, however the local city or county may have an ordinance that reflects use of such equipment.:m2:

And some towns have no idea what their ordinance is :bonk:

I was told in PA that I was to have BLUE only, and PA regulations state that you MUSt have a light visible 360 degrees, which I do not.

Last Tuesday on my way home from work, there was an accident on Interstate 78. There were no police there yet, but there was a county Fire Chief there. I stopped, and put on my lights. Made sure all were OK (which they were). Car was not in the roadway, nothing else I could do, so I went to leave. The State Trooper pulls up behind my truck. As I am getting into the truck, he says "Nice light setup!" And keeps walking

Guess that particular trooper either does not know or does not care that I need a 360 light.

Now I've had both reactions...I have 4 LEDs in my taillights and a 4 head amber LED in the back window, I was pulled off the side of a very busy street late at night and almost got hit by a speeding car as I tried to get out of my truck. So for safety reasons I turned my rear lights on. In a hurry to pull out I shut off the Amber window light, but forgot to turn off my strobes. $700 citation later, I realized that I didn't turn them off. The police officer pulled me out of the truck and started flipping switches, which turned on my front strobes. Anyways, $300 dollars each for front and rear facing "blue" lights without a permit. Now all of my lights are clear, but the LED gives them a little tint, NOT blue by any means.

Another time I was the first on scene of a 2 car head on accident. Being a first responder I blocked the intersection with my truck and turned on all my lights and began to check the injured. As I was administering first aid, the police and fire department showed up and began to take over, when I went to move my truck, I realized that the police had set up in other areas, so I actually could not move my truck. I then spent 20 minutes after the scene was cleared talking with the cops about where I got my lights, how I installed them, and how nice they thought they looked.....

So sometimes it depends on the LEO and not the actual LAW, as crazy as that sounds
