Can you remove CV Axles to make 4wd a 2wd?

Had CV axle seal replaced 3 times, and it's still leaking. The mechanic who screwed up the housing in the first place isn't in business anymore, so I can't even go after him. So I'm trying to figure out an economical way to stop my truck from leaking fluid all over my driveway.

Replacing the transfer case seems too costly with 160k miles on the truck but is
there anyway for the CV axles to be removed to just make my truck 2WD or is that idea too good to be true? I can live without 4wd.

Leave the inner axle parts (called "the plunger") in the differential so the housing won't leak too badly.

It won't turn --- well --- that's not totally true 'cause of stiction in the transfer case that will drag the innards around and around - and the front driveshaft might still turn a little bit.

You can also - along with the front axle stubs which you will leave --- just unbolt the front driveshaft and take it out.
"Screwed-up the housing" changing seals?

That's what epoxy and cleverness is for.
