Blown Speakers?

4179 Views 21 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Trailblazn
Ok I just had my new stereo system installed. The speakers I am running are Alpine Type X. The amp is an Alpine V Series 100X4. Anyway when I turn up the music pretty loud everything sounds good, but on a few songs with heavier bass, the speakers make a farting sound. They are brand new so I am pretty worried they might be blown already? It only occurs when I am set really loud, like on the threshold of where you want to listen, if I stay just under that it sounds awesome. Could it just be the speakers are underpowered?

Ok so talked to a bunch of people, seems my crossovers and gains are likely improperly set. If anyone has any other info I would greatly appreciate it.
did you do the install yourself or by someone else? go back and check/follow every single wire and make sure everything matches. i recently had mine hooked up and the wires got crossed between the amp and sub, on both subs. while it was loud, the bass wasnt there, i fixed it in ten minutes, and now it pounds! good luck!
first things first

are you sure the surrounds arent slapping the insides of the door panels?

do you have the bass up or any loudness settings on the head unit turned on?
A shop installed the system for me. And thanks for your advice but I found all my issues.

The amp gains and Hz settings weren't jiving with my head unit settings. A friend of mine who used to compete came by and helped me with a foundation with crossovers, EQs, and gains settings. After a few hours of tinkering and fine its hitting just perfect. Sorry to waste everyone's time.

But I will post pics soon.

If anyone cares my set up is as follows:

Kenwood Excelon DDX814 Head Unit
Alpine Type X 6 1/2s in the front doors
Alpine Type S 6 1/2 in the rear doors
Alpine Type S 12 Inch Subwoofer
Alpine V Series 100 x 4 Amplifier for the components
Alpine V Series 500 x 1 Amplifier for the Subwoofer

But I will post pics soon.
So where are these pics? It's been 5 hours since your last post. Plenty enough time to post some pics. Come on lets' see 'em.:D
Here are some pics, as mentioned its not going to win any competitions but I feel like its an average system for sure.

SPL:
Peak 109.9 dBA
Average 97.3 dBA

Hope that helps! Pretty modest, but it does the job for me. I tested on the song: Monica ft. Dem Franchize Boyz - Everytime Tha Beat Drop. Might not be the best song to test on? I am no sound pro. But I put the reader on the passenger seat and played that song at about as loud as I was comfortable pushing the system.
