When my fuel gauge first started acting up, it would read fine when it was full down to about a half tank. After that half tank, every time I cranked it, it would go up to the proper level and then slowly fall to empty and stay there. Then it just stayed on empty for the last year. Today I replaced the sending unit and it went back to the way it started acting up before it totally quit. It had some codes but I forget what they were because they cleared after I put the new sending unit in. They were some kind of high resistance codes. Question is, could it be the stepper motor since it works ok on full? Is there a way to test circuits? Any other ideas.

Thanks,

Rick

Being that you just replaced the sending unit, I would say your next option would me a failing stepper motor. I would suggest riding it round for a few see if those codes pop back up and post them here.

I am going to do that. I hope they come back but I don't think they reported until it totally failed.
