michigan finally got its first big snow of the year so i try to use 4WD, i can bear it clicking and engaging outside the car but there’s no power being sent to the front wheels, there’s no service 4x4 light and the switch will switch to all the 4WD options without a problem, anyone know what this could be?

Have you scanned for diagnostic codes? That would be the first step in the diagnostic effort.

Good luck!

When you switch between 2WD and 4WD, you should hear two distinct motor sounds. One from the area of the transfer case (that is the Encoder motor) and the other from the right front wheel area (that is the Disconnect Actuator). If both of these are heard and you have no drive power to the front wheels, more than likely the disconnect assembly is frozen. This is a common problem since it does not get sufficient lubrication. Also, when was the last time the transfer fluid changed? It needs to be changed every 50K miles with GM AutoTrak II fluid.
