Have a stupid (for not knowing) question, what is the vrf system and what does it have to do with the cam sensor ? Am getting a P0340 code which states : CMP Sensor is open or shorted to VRF between Sensor and PCM .

Ive replaced the cam sensor and pigtail , and am still getting the same code. My check engine light is on and can't seem to figure this one out.

Did an ohm meter to the pigtail and am getting 11.83 volts to the high side (12 volt) and 0.29 volts to the CMP Sensor if this helps

You really need to verify the wiring from the camshaft position sensor connector back to the ECM and to where the other 2 wires go to. I'm attaching the wiring diagram for a 2004 4.2L engine - it should be the same as the 2005 4.2L engine, that shows where the wires go, and the pinout diagram for the ECM's C3 connector.

FYI, you are interested in Page 9 of 10 for the camshaft position sensor's wiring specifics.

Good Luck!
