2004 envoy xuv tailgate problem

we opened the tailgate in the swing out motion and now it wont latch closed, i had finally get the bottom latch to hold but i can tell the top latch is not holding, if i push the door tight the window will roll all the way up, but when i release it the dash display says tailgate ajar, im afraid to take it to a dealer cause the nearest dealer is 40 miles away, i can push the open switch and it makes noise like the switch is operating, just dont know how to keep it closed, ty in advance for any help with this matter

Everything u need to know about the 305 XUV Tailgate

This is everything I have been able to assemble that will detail the parts involved and the analysis you may need to do to fix it. Likely just a 17 $ pressure switch (look at the swing gate one ..pull it off its a rusted pain but when u put the new one on it will probibily fix it. Look at dirty latches. Read the TSBs look at the elec and parts diagrams and good luck. PM me if u need more info. Enjoy its our punishment for loving the XUV

Cannot open tailgate

Cannot locate the manual release switches as indicated. How can I get a detailed view/instruction?

I found the manual release switches.

If you are in the back of the vehicle, looking at the closed door, they will be on the right hand side. I am assuming you have taken off the back plastic cover and you are looking the inside of the backdoor. You can access these with the window down all the way.

There will be two small black plastic boxes along the inside to the right. They both have 2 small metal switches that you push up. They do not push up very easily. One is located in the upper middle of the door while the other is located way at the bottom.

I pushed on the top latch and the door opened a little. The bottom latch is very hard to access and to push up. After moving both latches, I had to do them both a second time in order for the door to open all the way. Wiggling the door a little seemed to help the latches move.

xuv roof still stuck

My xuv roof is in open position and will not close. The DIC says the familiar tailgate see manual. If you try to put up the rear gate window it says close roof. Does anyone have a fix. thank you

Thanks for those images. We just got an XUV about 3 weeks ago. The swing out doesn't work. I've been searching for answers but haven't found any. Yet.

I've taken the touch switch apart and cleaned it up but that didn't help. I"m hoping I can find something in those images that might point me in the right direction.
