I feel your pain, mine has gone through just about everything yours has been. Right after I ordered my tires is when my fan clutch went out. $560 for tires then $760 for fan clutch. I was quite sure the clutch was causing all my code problems and if I had done the work myself I'd have saved $500. Not happy at all about that.

I also need to go in for an alignment check. I replaced the CV axles, hub assemblies, and a tie rod last winter. I know your supposed to do alignment after tie rod but I was very careful to measure the old and new placement of the nut. Drove straight down the road, figured I did a good job, however now the wheel bearings are starting the make noise again and it's way too soon for that again.

Stopped by work today and one of the guys there has a mechanic he swears by. We gave a call and I told him story from day one.
He came up with three scenarios since this was the second clutch and third with the original bad one.

Simple would be re-flash the computer, he says the computer may still be sending signal for old part number and he said he could do it but suggested a dealer. He says they have options he doesn't.

Other could be bad circulation causing fan to come on now even when I just slow to under 10-15mph. engine could be getting hot. I had also told him that the heat in the rear ceiling only blows hot when I'm at highway speeds other wise blows ambient temp. He said the circulation problem.

So he says other 2 could either be stat or maybe even water pump.

But the temp needle never moves more then one line.

OK got my ass greased good today and no it wasn't enjoyed!
Finally had to take to a GM dealer and it wasn't good.
I was told that a NON GM clutch only works half the time if the Flash update works, Anyway he told me if it was a Pt# from the local store I bought it from it will never work?
Anyway the clutch was replaced, the relay was replaced because he said the old relay wouldn't work with the new clutch, the computer was re-flashed.
Drove it home about 12 miles and all seems to be good so far. He did say that they do a few a month like this.
Oh the grand total $1,330.00

I hope that's not the case with mine. Shop bought the fan clutch from Napa Auto. Roughly 260 for the clutch and they charged me around 390 for it. I could have bought AC delco for that price on rock auto. Mine sounds like a turbine at first startup and about 30 seconds after driving it stops. I don't know if I need to get reflash or not... Hope everything with yours works out for a while. $1300 ouch! I'm not surprised though with a GM dealer saying only GM parts will do. What was the price breakdown? Parts & Labor?

Drove home yesterday and all was good, almost. Pickup amazing, no swooshing noise at all even when starting.
This morning same drives great with no lose of power.
Problem is the belt squeals like crazy.

Price breakdown was $587.00 for fan, $65.00 for relay which they swore the new fan wouldn't work with the old relay. $570.00 labor and 85.00 for uncle sam.

I also mentioned the roughness of the engine and was told to drive it for a qhile that it is possible the comp may have to relearn driving habits since it was always under strain with the bad clutch.

OK ran great for a few weeks or less. No power at all again and doesn't miss but idles rough!

Two things is it runs good for a few miles on damp cool mornings occasionally.

Is it possible for the coils to be weak?
I disconnected them one at a time and some cylinders there was a Huge difference other you could barely notice although there was a difference.

When you pull the coils the response should be the same on all cylinders. Replace the ones that aren't giving as strong a response. Yes, they can get weak before they fail entirely. They also tend to work better when they are cool before the engine warms us but the fuel doesn't burn as well when cold so there is a trade-off there. Sometimes the idle will be rough when cold but not warn and sometimes it will be better cold than warm.

OK I'm back.
I rarely use this hunk of trash because it runs worse every day. Driving a 1987 Mazda PU with a 5 speed and no A/C.
Did get a code P0300 boy that tells a lot.
Anyway I know had a reader stopped by and did some testing and it says something about a vacuum test fail.

EVAP excess vacuum fail test 2
Enhanced Evaporative Emission System Monitor #1 (.040' Leak)

Any new ideas?

OK folks if a dealer can not figure out what the problem is with a product they sell the service charge should be FREE.
This piece of crap is at a local shop now because it barely runs.
They have spent al day on it running every test they can. Comp is good on all 6 cyl. coils are good gas flow pressures are good.
Their final suggesting is the cat converter or the head. They are going with the cat because it is not the original, it half the size of the original one but all test show good except the temp test is off some, intake to out. Should be ready by tue so we will see.

Still here, Cat converter for $850.00 still runs like ****tttt!!!!!!!
Took it back AGAIN and he had a different scanner/computer that is supposedly can check every diagnosis possible on the hunk of scrap. He is saying head with no explanation, he ran a comp test yet again and all cyl are good.
He showed me where the the diagnosis says something like 200,000 multi cyl misfires while I was there. What can possible cause this?????????????

As indicated before, If there is a difference in response from some cylinder when you pull coils, then there is you problem. What do the plugs look like?

Coils have been checked but changed anyway, plugs are new twice.
If ya remember the old cars when the timing was to far advanced and it would rock and miss that is what it sounds like. :bonk:

Ok I was really going to junk the piece of garbage but metal is only $2.50 a hundred here.
Went to an old mechanic locally who has no idea what a computer even is. Dealer two others and now him. Dealer just said drive it maybe it will get better, another wants to change the head, and this old timer. He agreed that if it was an old car he would say the timing was way off. So he suggested I change it again changed the VVT. Just like the last one it runs awesome again, the 1st one ran great for about a week or two.
What would make these go bad?

LOL Still pulling my hair out. Still runs like crap and on top of it had to have the water pump replaced at the cost of $550.00.
