what function does the 2 wire connector that attaches to the Alt provide? Its a tan and red wire. the red wire was broken but the voltmeter was still registering 14v on the meter. I am thinking that was giving me the erratic idle cause the lights would dim and that.

also there is another red wire(thicker) with a metal connector on the end that isnt attached to anything. it ends at a plastic wire loom fastener. Its near the alt too.

so if the red wire is disconnected then it cant tell the alt to kick on so could that be a reason of the idle?

i wonder if that other wire with the metal connector is the connector for the 12V constant for the trailer connector in the rear.
it usually sits close to the fuse box where it would be attached to a nut there...

I think roadie has a pic of this ringed connector

so far good on the idle with soldering the red wire back together.
